Unison Group to Open Schools in India

First school to open in Pune by September 2023

Wellington College is proud to announce an agreement with the Unison Group to establish premium Wellington College schools in India. The schools will share the values, ethos, enduring quality and ambition of Wellington College, while combining the very best of British and Indian education. Unison will establish the first school in Pune (also known as the 'Oxford of the East'), Maharashtra.

Wellington College International is a leading international schools’ group. It is a subsidiary of Wellington College, founded under the British Royal Charter in 1853, and a leading UK day and boarding school. From its strong heritage, Wellington is firmly future-facing, famous for its pioneering spirit and drive for all-round excellence.

There are currently six schools in the WCI family, with two outstanding partners in China and Thailand serving over 5,000 students. Each school is a recognised leader in its region and delivers world class academic results and university placements, including Oxbridge and Ivy League.

Unison Group is a premium education provider in India, with four education institutions in Dehradun and Delhi NCR, including Unison World School, which is one of the India’s leading girls’ boarding schools. Unison Group institutions are known for their quality and academic rigour.

Wellington College International Pune will be a co-educational day and boarding school for ages 2-18 being established on a campus designed by award-winning British architect. The school will follow the English National Curriculum culminating in the IB Diploma, for which Wellington College is amongst the leading academic schools globally. WCI Pune will also offer unparalleled excellence in sports, music, and the arts. Further schools are in planning, including full boarding schools.

Pune has long been known as a centre of education, being home to top universities and the highest number of international students of any city in India. It is also a global hub for innovation, manufacturing, technology, and medical research, having most recently provided leading expertise in the development and manufacturing of the AstraZeneca CoviShield vaccine.

Wellington College is one of the UK’s great boarding schools, and is set in over 400 acres of beautiful parkland in Berkshire, west of London. It is a co-educational school for 13-18 years, and is renowned for its pioneering approach and all-round excellence.

Wellington seeks to be a vibrant, inspiring and challenging place which opens the minds and hearts of its pupils. Wellington College is a global leading IB school, and achieves consistently outstanding academic results in both IBDP and A Level, while also truly excelling in the arts, music and sports.

Wellington has a long and rich heritage. The College was opened with a Royal Charter by Queen Victoria in 1859, as a living memorial to the first Duke of Wellington. All reigning monarchs since have been the official Wellington College visitor. Queen Elizabeth last visited Wellington for its 150 year celebration in 2009.

In keeping with its pioneering spirit, Wellington began exploring the possibility to open a school overseas in 2008, and with its China partner opened the first school in Tianjin, China is 2011. Wellington College International now has 6 schools in its family of schools, as well as Wellington College and Eagle House Prep School (est.1839) in the UK.

Eagle House is a co-educational, day and boarding school for ages 2 to 13, located in Berkshire very close to Wellington College. The school celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2020. Wellington College, India

The Unison Group, in partnership with Wellington College UK, will establish a group of premium international schools in different parts of the country. Wellington College India will follow the ethos of Wellington College UK, and will also blend Indian traditions and customs to offer a truly global experience.

The first school is being established in Pune and will open in September 2023. The school would be co-educational, offering day and boarding options to children of age 2-18.

The school will follow English National Curriculum designed using the International Baccalaureate framework culminating in the IB Diploma, for which Wellington College is amongst the leading academic schools globally

Each school will have University Guidance Counsellors to advise and support students in applications to the world’s top Universities.

Amit Agarwal hails from a prominent family of educationists and philanthropists in Dehra Dun. An illustrious management graduate and eminent scholar with an eye for perfection, Amit Agarwal is a visionary who believes in 'Walk the Talk' philosophy and leads by example. His hard work resulted in the establishment of new Group institutions in Dehra Dun and Delhi NCR, in a short span of time, bringing accolades to the Group.

A young and dynamic leader, he is an epitome of patience, practicality, perseverance and precision and extremely far sighted in his vision, and commands high respect in the academic fraternity. He envisions to create and nurture self-motivated professionals who will make a significant contribution towards the global society as a whole.

Anuj Aggarwal, an alumnus of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, is closely associated with spearheading the Group’s initiatives. Deeply associated with the cause of education, Anuj Aggarwal is an incisive ‘edupreneur’ and humanitarian, widely credited with being one of the pioneers in changing the educational landscape of the region, dating back to over two decades.

A second-generation entrepreneur, he is driven by the core philosophy of infusing ‘Growth with Goodness’ through his vision of nation-building. Nation-building, for him, means transforming the educational landscape of India by playing an instrumental role in creating institutions of transformational education that will continue to influence and nurture the country’s youth for decades to come. He has always maintained that access to quality education is the most potent tool of transformation and that building successful institutions is dependent on forging enduring partnerships and creating new knowledge.

Scott has a thorough understanding of the UK independent sector coupled with a wide range of international experience from more than 20 years working in education. His school leadership experience includes three successful Headships; in the UK, UAE and more recently as a founding Head in Switzerland. He was also Strategic Director at a leading UK Independent School, including responsibility for developing international business. Scott is responsible for developing WCI’s schools’ business and critically to support current partners as they develop successful Wellington College schools, as well as to ensure the reputation and quality of establishments overseas.

With a background in licensing and franchising, Clare comes from outside the education sector, and joined WCI from Starbucks Coffee Corporation in 2018. There for over 7 years, she led development of the UK franchise business and previously developed licensed relationships and concept co-operation solutions with major businesses in the travel, hospitality and leisure sectors throughout Europe. Clare is responsible for developing WCI’s school business, as well as developing and expanding support capabilities and network strength.
